The treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids.

Keloids and hypertrophic scars are a serious problem in aesthetic dermatology and dermatosurgery. Their formation is associated with the abnormalities of wound healing at people with certain predispositions.

Their occurrence may be accompanied by pain, itching and the limitation of movement, especially joints. These lesions are often a major cause of psychological discomfort, especially if they occur in the exposed area, important for the aesthetics of the body. Any form of the treatment may be applied for separately, but our experience shows that the best results are achieved by combining the different methods.

The treatment options used in hypertrophic scars and keloids are as follows:

  • Surgical excision
  • Pharmacological treatment (intralesional injections of corticosteroids)
  • Laser therapy (fractional CO2 laser)
